When a building in Manhattan is destroyed in a bizarre earthquake that transports another building literally inside of it, Walter concludes that to correct the unbalance created by the incident, another random building in Manhattan will vanish, killing everyone inside. To identify which building it will be, the team travels to Jacksonville, Florida, to the site of Olivia’s childhood drug trials. (Which she has no recollection of.) By conducting experiments similar to those experienced while she was a child, Olivia gains the ability to identify objects and energies originating from the other side. After using this ability to identify the building that is set to vanish, Olivia evacuates it moments before it disappears. Afterwards, in the midst of a budding romance with her colleague Peter, Olivia sees the same energy radiate from him, and realizes that he is from the “other side.”





A wedding becomes a testing-field for a weaponized chemical agent that causes some wedding guests to suffocate from the inside out. As the Fringe division investigates, Walter uncovers a disturbing connection between the lethal experiment and the Bishop family. With the threat of more attacks mounting, Olivia, Peter and Walter race the clock in order to prevent more deaths.





After a business man’s veins erupt with blood infected with a lethal virus, investigating agents Olivia and Peter are quarantined with the rest of the exposed office workers. Walter, Broyles, and Astrid race against the clock to find a cure while the virus overtakes Peter’s health and sanity, eventually finding a panacea derived from horseradish.





An inexplicable attack involving disfigured people leads the Fringe division to the small town of Edina City, where it becomes apparent that the disfigured people have managed to hide themselves from the rest of the world. Walter goes to the home of one of the residents and discovers that there is a machine hiding the people’s deformities. Walter shuts down the machine, revealing their deformities. Agent Broyles almost reveals the residents of Edina’s secret, but Walter stops him.





In a special unaired episode from season one (or is it an episode received from the alternate dimension? The inexplicable and sudden reappearance of Charlie Francis -who was previously killed by Olivia in Episode 4,Momentum Deferred- in his pre-shapeshifting capacity as an FBI agent working the case would suggest so), a young girl is pronounced brain dead and taken off life support, but she shockingly regains consciousness just as her organs are about to be harvested. Even more bizarre, she now has the ability to speak Russian and possesses information that only high-ranking Russian soldier could know. The Fringe division investigates as her strange condition grows.





A Fringe investigation is triggered when a patient at a mental institution undergoes an impromptu brain surgery that unexpectedly leaves his brain exposed. Despite the unthinkable circumstances, the patient’s condition and sanity miraculously improves before the Fringe team arrives. While Agent Dunham and Peter scan surveillance tapes (and Walter enjoys his pudding), Olivia recognizes a familiar face as Thomas Jerome Newton (guest star Sebastian Roche), the leader of the “shape-shifters.” As similar cases stack up, the Fringe team heads back to the lab to determine exactly how patients are being cured. Walter’s brains are put to the test and William Bell (guest star Leonard Nimoy) resurfaces.





A damaged cargo ship washes ashore and all of the crewmembers seem to be infected with giant squid-like creatures that actually turn out to be parasites. While Fringe division investigates, the clock starts ticking when Olivia, Peter and Broyles discover a terrifying connection between the incident and a threatening organization.





A peculiar abduction occurs in Boston, leading the Fringe team to uncover details of the mysterious man known as The Observer. While the bizarre case takes center stage, Walter, Peter, and Astrid hit the lab to analyze unusual evidence and deal with Walter’s insatiable appetite for milkshakes.





When a kidnapping rapidly escalates into a hostage situation in New York, local authorities close in on the suspects only to discover that an unknowable force has mind-blowing consequences. The investigation intensifies and the mystery and threat deepen to unimaginable proportions when the Fringe Division identifies a link between the kidnapping and Massive Dynamic.





The Fringe division takes on a puzzling investigation of victims who inexplicably disintegrate into ash. The shadowy case casts light on Special Agent Phillip Broyles’ past and leads the team to the possibility of foreign Fringe science.
